Key Stage 3
At CGS we will offer a two-year Key Stage 3 programme that pupils will follow in years 7 and 8. The Key Stage 3 curriculum will provide an excellent grounding in the core subjects (Mathematics, Science, English, Religious Education, Physical Education and Personal Health and Social Education/ Citizenship) as well as the Arts, Humanities, Spanish, and Design and Technology. Through this study, pupils will develop a range of skills and competencies and a substantial body of knowledge.
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum is designed to ensure that all pupils develop key skills, particularly in English and Mathematics which they will need to be successful at Key Stage 4 and beyond.
Key Stage 4
Key Stage 4 will be a three-year programme as we believe this provides the best opportunity to broaden and deepen a pupil’s knowledge and skills. All pupils will study a combination of compulsory and option subjects at GCSE or equivalent. Pupils will make their option choices in the spring of Year 8.
The CGS KS4 curriculum meets all National Curriculum requirements and in addition will allow pupils to opt to study the English Baccalaureate programme, consisting of English, Mathematics, at least two Science subjects, either History and/or Geography and at least one Modern Foreign language.
We aim to ensure that each pupil’s KS4 programme is tailored to his or her interests whilst at the same time providing an appropriate level of challenge and the right basis for future study and careers. All pupils will have individual and independent careers advice.
